Lisboa, Tennessee?

When I first saw this video of Buckin and Jookin from Memphis I couldn't get over how familiar it looked. Then it struck me: It's really similar to Kuduro dancing, which is originally from Angola and getting big in Lisbon, Portugal where Buraka Som Sistema is from.

See for yourself:

Adrian Lux-Can't Sleep

Call me sappy, but this video is the closest representation I've seen of the sort of empty, zombie state that heartbreak can put you in. I think it's really moving. I'll admit I got caught off guard at the end, but I liked it.

I'm back. Shinichi Osawa & Au Revoir Simone-Star Guitar

Well, sorry about that ridiculous absence. Let's get this shit going again with this gorgeous video from Shinichi Osawa, featuring the cuties from Au Revoir Simone. It's a cover of The Chemical Brother's Star Guitar, and it's great and a little haunting, I like it better than the original.

Where the fuck have I been? I'm an asshole

Sorry blog-readers, all two of you, but I've just been slipping and at SXSW and doing all sorts of other things that I won't bore you with. However, I've got good news for you. I'm teaming up with Hot Flash partner Genova to bring you some ridiculousness. Here's a sneak preview of what we're getting ready for you!

That first track is of course Well Known Pleasures by our good friend Vega
Also, I interviewed Nadastrom and I promise I'll put that up soon.

Flock of Thugs

There are many questions that appear to be everpresent in the consciousness of man.  "Where did we come from?" "Where do we go when we die?" "What is the meaning of life?" Perhaps one of the heaviest and most contested of them all is the ominous question "Who Run It?" Slim Thug offers his dissertation in his new track which samples "I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls.

Also, Slim Thug isn't very slim, that's true, but he can't call himself Chunky Thug because that's the name I started being called after (unsuccessfully) attempting to hold up a Baskin Robbins

Juvenile

I'm not afraid to admit that I have a bias against Juvenile, unless of course he's reading this in which case I'm very afraid and will sleep with a sock full of buffalo nickels next to my bed tonight. I've had that bias since around the sixth grade when I first heard of him, but I'll be damned if this song doesn't have me excited for his next record. (please don't kill me Mr. Nile.)

2/12 Sentence Reviews: He's Just Not That Into You

Welcome to a guest edition of 2 1/2 sentence reviews. My good friend Anne Clark just watched "He's Just Not That Into You" She's a former resident of Omaha and Dallas and now lives in a city that I can not name because she is wanted for endangerment of cats and various livestock. Since I will never watch this movie, here is her review:

Two hours explaining that he's just not into you is just as interesting as it sounds. When did Scarlett Johannson get fat? Also, Ben Affleck.

Thanks Anne.

I Want To Break Your Heart

This year for Valentine's Day I went the opposite of last year and made a heartbreak mix. Ironically, this is the first valentines day that I didn't spend alone. I don't think any of the mix is too whiny, and it covers a good amount of genres. A lot of the tracks run longer than I would normally let them run in a set, but that's because I was really trying to set a mood here. Pretty much all of the songs hold a personal significance to me, so that explains why some of them might not seem to fit the theme. Feel free to e-mail me and tell me what you think: killtronix@gmail.com

2 1/2 Sentence Movie Reviews

I'm not a big movie guy. I mean, I'm a big guy, and I enjoy movies, but I'm not a big guy who watches a lot of movies. Nor am I a guy who watches movies in a big way. I have also never seen the movie Big despite being big. I'm big.

For others like me and the incredibly lazy, I will be providing two and one half sentence movie reviews of movies that I have already seen. Luckily, recently I've seen an unusually large amount of movies. We start this new segment with The Good, The Bad & the Weird:

Chubby Comedic Relief, Ruthless Killer, and Loner Good Guy are all looking for a map in Manchuria that may or may not lead to treasure in this stylish homage to the Sergio Leone original. It's a good, serious movie, but it's too glossy to feel like a true western. Also, nomads

If you want real movie review and other things that are movie related and good, go to Gordon and the Whale. Tell them Killtron Sent you and get absolutely nothing!

I hate autotune but love this

Kuduro + Rap Tracks!

I took two of my favorite tracks from the O Sul Do Sul mix, singled them out and uploaded them for you!

Kuduro + Rap

I just found out yesterday that Buraka Som Sistema is going to be at SXSW this year, and I'm sooo hyped! To celebrate, I'm uploading my O Sul Do Sul mixtape. I never really promoted this very well, so chances are you don't have it. It's about thirty minutes long and is all Kuduro + Rap blends made by yours truly. Kuduro is a style of music that originated in Angola and is very rythmic, fierce and rapid.

Music for a freezing day

This is a new Flosstradamus track featuring Caroline Polachek, lead singer of the band Chairlift. This is a good song to get snuggly to and enjoy the cold and the dreary skies. More soon!

Stay in, listen to this!

All of Dallas is freezing over! THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN IS WALKING THE STREETS!! All this hooplah over the weather reminds me of one of my favorite pieces of tv ever:

Of course as long as we don't get one of these, we're ok.

Stay Safe!

Wakey wakey!

I've been gone for like a week because I've been sick among other reasons, but I'm back and on the grind today. First thing's first: Pictures from Hot Flash!

Free stuff from Notorious, The Wrestler

No, not Notorious the Wrestler. He was different. Kind of scary to be honest. Yesterday I went out to Denton to pick up some stuff from Chase Whale, one half of Gordon and the Whale. I've never read the site. I guess it's about fishing or some shit, so I was a litttle surprised when he gave me movie promo stuff. (just kidding guys).

I'll be giving away movie goodz at Hot Flash this Saturday, so make sure you're there. I'll also be giving out mix CDs because I'm such a nice guy. So now, pay attention:

BLADOW!

Hot Flash is going to be nutso. Photos from Stephieyaknow free movie stuff, cheap drinks, wobbly basslines, hi-hats, hand claps, airhorns! WHOA!

Also, bonus picture of Michael Ann in Denton showing off her most prized posession:

Day 2-White Telephone

This Morning I woke up a blogger. It was a strange feeling, but a good one. Colors were brighter, sounds were crisper, my neckbeard was fuller. Truly I am realizing what it means to be 2.0

Today I'm going back to a time when I could drink a pint of Jagermeister, a 40 of Bud Ice and still manage to function: Summer of 2005. I was fortunate enough to be a part of a group of friends that pretty much hovered around a set of now defunct bands: The Undoing of David Wright, OMG You're Dead!!! and a bunch others that I'm too lazy to link. My favorite band however, was White Telephone. Three dudes, one bassist, one drummer, one singer. Sooooo gooood. They only recorded three songs and then broke up. Here's there complete performance at OMG You're Dead's homecoming show at 1919 Hemphill in Ft. Worth. The audio's pretty crappy, so I'm going to hunt down my copy of their demo.

This is my blog, there are others like it but I forgot the rest of this quote

My name's Joel aka Joel Kill, aka Joel Damage aka Killtron, aka I'll still need to see your invitation sir.

I'm venturing into the world of blogging for no real reason, but if you like music, DJ's , art, stupid jokes, being alive, and greatest things ever, this is where you should be. Thanks for reading this!

I'm starting this summbitch with the greatest music video ever:

The magic man you see in this video is Chris Dane Owens. He financed this video himself, which is pretty awesome if you ask me. I feel good when I see this video and so far I've watched it like thirty times. I'm going to try and get an interview with him. Until I do, visit his website: http://chrisdaneowens.com
